General Program Comments
The General Surgery residency program consists of the basic surgical disciplines as well as special training in endoscopy, laparoscopy, cardiovascular surgery and surgical intensive care. There are also several options to select from for electives including out-of-house rotations. Each resident will have heavy responsibility for patient care working from an annual inpatient caseload of nearly 4,000 patients, many coming from an extremely active trauma/emergency center. Outpatient surgery accounts for over 6,000 procedures per year. Didactics include case presentation conferences, mortality review, tumor board and journal club.
