General Program Comments
The Internal Medicine residency at Aria Jefferson Health has been training residents for over 30 years. The program length is 3 years, and is now approved for 8 positions per year. The program prepares residents in critical care, inpatient general internal medicine and its subspecialities, as well as outpatient medicine. Residents are provided significant opportunities for autonomy throughout training, allowing to quickly become proficient with both patient care and procedures. Residents train at the three Aria campuses, each with different strengths for learning potential. The Torresdale Campus is a 258-bed hospital with an urban/suburban patient population, with services including medicine and subspecialties, CT surgery, trauma, critical care and neurosurgery. Residents will spend a majority of their clinical training at this site, as well as attend weekly medicine conferences at Torresdale. Rotations at this site include inpatient internal medicine, night float, ICU, medicine subspecialties and anesthesia. The Frankford Campus is a 115-bed urban facility where medicine residents provide ICU coverage. This is also the location of the outpatient continuity clinic. Residents will gain experience working with inner-city and under-served patient populations at this campus. The Bucks Campus is a 112-bed medical/surgical community hospital which was the original home campus of the Internal Medicine residency. Rotations at this campus include inpatient internal medicine, cardiology, anesthesia and ICU. It is the current home of the 3B Orthopedic Institute. In addition, residents are provided with educational stipends, board review resources, online library access for multiple journals/texts, and Up-to-Date access during training. Ample opportunities exist for research and poster presentations, and residents are often encouraged to present at regional and national conferences. In recent years, graduates of Aria Health have taken positions in both hospital and outpatient medicine, or continued training in fellowships including cardiology, nephrology, and critical care medicine. In July 2015, the Critical Care fellowship began at Aria, a 2-year program for Internal Medicine graduates.
